Abstract
A study on bird species diversity in SALCRA Jagoi Oil Palm Estate was conducted for four days. A total of ten mist-nets were set up in each of two selected areas in SALCRA Jagoi Oil Palm Estate. These areas are the 5 years plot and 15 years plot of oil palm trees. A total of 30 birds, 12 species and nine families have been recorded around SALCRA Jagoi Oil Palm Estate using mist-netting method. The Shannon-Wiener Index for the 5 years plot is H'= 0.9276 and for 15 years plot is H'=0.4362. The family that dominates around SALCRA Jagoi Oil Palm Estate was Nectariniidae with four species which are Eastern crimson sunbird (Aethopyga siparaja), Little spiderhunter (Arachnoctera longirostra), Rubycheek (Chalcoparia singalensis) and Brown-throated sunbird (Anthreptes malacensis). Brown-throated sunbird (Anthreptes malacensis) was the most common species captured in this study with seven individuals.
