Abstract

Compiling data on the systematics and distribution of-insects of the order Odonata in Sarawak is important for conservation efforts, as collecting information on the biodiversity of a region must be carried out to initiate an effective conservation plan. The objective of this study is to provide a systematic account of Odonata species in Sarawak as well as a description of their distribution in Sarawak based on specimens collected from Kubah National Park and specimens stored at local repositories. The specimens referenced are stored at three local repositories, the Sarawak Forest Research Centre, Sarawak Biodiversity Centre, and the Insect Reference Collection at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). Each specimen was examined based on identifying morphological characteristics. Distribution maps for each species were constructed using DIVA-GIS Version 7.5. A total of 1636 specimens representing 13 families, 60 genera and 80 species were examined. Most species are distributed in West Sarawak.
