Abstract

A survey on the species diversity of mosquitoes was conducted using mosquito nets at three selected sampling locations in Kuching division. Both Kg. Bukit Limo, Serian and Kg. Melayu, Bau represent the sampling sites for the urban habitat while Kubah National Park represents the forested habitat. Comparison of the diversity of mosquito at two different vegetation types (i.e. residential area and also forested area) was made. A total of 1643 individuals were caught for all three sampling locations for a total of 21 sampling days. These mosquitoes were represented by 18 species and eight genera. Genus Cul ex and Aedes represented the highest species composition captured at both residential areas. The highest genus caught at Kubah National Park was from the genus Armigeres which consist of two species, Ar. subalbatus and Ar. setifer. Kg. Bukit Limo, Serian had the highest species diversity index and evenness calculated.
