Abstract

The study on community structure of meiofauna from Kuap river was conducted in main and tributaries of the river. The objective of this study is to know the community structure of meiofauna from Kuap river, estuary. A few physico-chemical parameter and samples of meiofauna were taken. The study was carried out at main river and its tributaries and also vertical and horizontal distribution. From both study, a total of 8 meiofauna taxa were identified. The compositions of meiofauna were dominated by Nematoda. The meiofauna community structure of both areas appears to be influence primarily by pH, salinity, temperature and dissolved oxygen. Total average density of meiofauna for main river and its tributaries was 65.2 individual/10 cm Z. While density for horizontal and vertical distribution studies on intertidal area is 71.4 and 42.9 individual/10 cm 2 respectively. The study contributes the information to the knowledge gap of meiofauna in Sarawak water.
