Abstract

A study of non-volant small mammals diversity between oil palm plantation and forest fragment was conducted at the Saremas I Plantation in the Bintulu District, Sarawak, was conducted in three sampling period; 2'' November until 5th November 2013, 14th January 2014 until 19th January 2014 and 4th April until 12th April 2014. A total of 49 individuals were captured. The animals were trapped using cage traps. The main objective of this study was to compare the diversity of non-volant small mammals between oil palm plantation and forest fragment. Shannon's Index and Simpson's Index was calculated by using PAST software to compare the diversity between the habitats and t-test was calculated to test either there is significant difference in diversity of non-volant small mammals in oil palm plantation and forest fragment. The estimation of occupancy of each species in that area was also calculated using PRESENCE software.
