Abstract

A study was conducted to determine the feeds utilized by five goat farms in Kuching and Kota Samarahan division, Sarawak. The dry matter (DM), ash, crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF) and phosphorus (P) were determined according to the method from Association of Official Analytical Chemist (AOAC, 2002). Forage such as Pennisetum purpureum and Gliricidia sp. were utilized by most goat farms compared to protein concentrates and energy concentrates. The nutritional composition analysis has shown that sago had highest DM (90.40%) content whereas mung bean sprouts-I had lowest DM (6.53%) content. Soybean meal was the major source of protein with 27.29% of crude protein content while concentrates mixture-I was the major source of energy with 15.02% of ether extract content. The Brachiaria humidicola contains higher NDF (79.54%) and ADF (41.77%) content. The P content was higher in browse categories with 2.92% and the Morus sp.-I contains highest P (4.38%) content. The feed in Zakaria Farm is highest in quality whereas the feed in Razali Farm is lowest in quality. The goat body condition in Zakaria Farms has highest score of 4 out of 5 while the goat body condition in Razali Farms has lowest score of 2 out of 5.
