Abstract

A total of 2632 from 3912 specimens recorded in the online database for bats in Institute of Biodiversity (IBD) Lanchang were sorted during three museum visits to ensure the reliability of the recorded database. The original online database was used to study the strengths and gaps of the museum, based on the presence and absence of different taxonomic group and their associated geographical distributions. The species richness among forest reserves from the data were compared and presented on maps. Map that shows the distribution patterns of species, family, IUCN status and forest reserves according to their geographical distribution were created using ArcGIS software version 10.1 and the species diversity were calculated with the aid of PAST Software. Study shows the strength of collections from family Pteropodidae from 79 localities is the largest distribution. Collections highly found in Perak, Selangor and Pahang and Ulu Muda Forest Reserve shows the highest Shannon's Index value. Gaps of the collections are lack from Kelantan and Terengganu. Sampling in the 2 states and the area of potential new species should be done as a representative to make museum collection more resourceful.
