Abstract

A study on species diversity of avifauna was conducted at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) campus Kota Samarahan (0127.48'N; I 10°27.03'E). The study area was divided into two sites which are Site A (East Campus) and Site B (West Campus). A total of 1578 birds representing 24 families and 44 species were recorded from December 2013 to March 2014 in both study areas. Site A recorded 802 number of observations which was represented by 35 species from 23 families meanwhile in Site B was 773 number of observations recorded with 38 species from 22 families. Asian Glossy Starling was the dominant species with a total of 410 individuals followed by Eurasian tree-sparrow with 193 individuals and Common Myna with 168 individuals. The highest number of species with four species recorded was from family Estrildidae. The birds were observed using line transect method by observation and also vocalization. Some migratory birds were also recorded.
