Abstract
Methyl-2-pyridylketone thiosemicarbazone (1) and vanillin thiosemicarbazone (2) have been synthesized by condensation reaction in ethanol solution. The synthesized compounds were characterized using CHN elemental analyzer, UV-visible, FTIR and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The IR spectra of both compound show important bond formation of the compound, C=N peak at 1611 cm' for compound (1) and 1593 cm' for compound (2). The compounds were then reacted with Zn(II) acetate dihydrate and refluxed in methanolic KOH solution for 8 hours. Both of the complexes were characterized using CHN elemental analysis, UV-visible, FTIR spectroscopy and molar conductivity. The CHN value of Zn(II) complex (1) is precise to its calculated value proving that the structure is correct. The presence of impurities in the Zn(II) complex (2) may cause the difference of its calculated and recorded CHN value. Molar conductivity test for both complexes show that the complexes are non-electrolyte.
