Abstract
This study introduced microemulsion-based technique as an alternative method in replacing solvent extraction because of the solvent's volatile nature. The objective of this study is to identify the optimum parameters to obtain the highest extraction yield by microemulsion-based technique. Soybean oil extraction by microemulsionbased technique was studied at different parameters. Once optimum parameter was identified which are lg sample to 20 mL of 0.20 mg/L surfactant at 30 minutes contact time, the same conditions were applied for solvent extraction as comparison. Microemulsion-based technique was also studied using mixture of Brij-30 and GE-460 at 19: 1 ratio. Oil yield extraction was enhanced by centrifuged at 5000 rpm for 20 minutes. Quality and efficiency of oil extracted was determined by visual observation, percent of extraction efficiency and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopic method (FTIR). Results showed extraction using non-ionic surfactant Brij-30 is 45.86%, mixed surfactant system Brij-30 and GE-460 is 36.24% while hexane solvent extraction method is 73.76%.
