Abstract
Horror films became one of the most popular genres in films. Compare to visual quality, sound design took the main role in horror films. Now days most of the horror films rely on nondiegetic sound such as background music and post sound effects to bring out the scary mood to audiences. Non-diegetic sound will be easier to enhance the atmosphere in story and become more fearful. However, overuse non-diegetic sound will overlap the diegetic sound (actual sound). Lack of actual sound will cause the audiences hard to relatable the details in horror film into reality life. In thisstudy the researcher will present the important of diegetic sound in horror films. Firstly, the researcher will brief introduction to the chosen topic, followed by relevant facts on literature review, where are presented previous specialized studies. The second part explains the research methodology and data analysis. Finally, the researcher presents the expected outcome of the study.
