Abstract

The objective of this study is to explore the implementation of Occupational Safety and Health Management System (OSHMS) at Matang Wildlife Centre. OSHMS aims to protect the human capital and resources in an organization through a series of comprehensive efforts. OSHMS highlights on both occupational safety and occupational health aspects. It is crucial to mention that this study focuses on the implementation of OSHMS via OSH policies and risk prevention measures being applied at the wildlife centre. The challenges in implementing a proper OSHMS was also included in this study. Not much past researches were done in the setting of zoological park setting. Animal keepers working with close proximity with animals are exposed to various occupational risks. This study gives rise to a deeper understanding on how animal facilities rely on OSH policies to minimize the likelihood of occupational injuries and accidents. Risk prevention measures played a vital role in risk management as it enhances emergency preparedness. Qualitative method was used to get deeper insights on the real implementations of OSHMS at the wildlife centre. Semi-structured interview method and data analysis are the strategy to make sure that the collected data gives impact in achieving the research objectives. In conclusion, good OSH practices could overcome the barriers in OSHMS implementation at Matang Wildlife Centre.
