Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a devasting chronic disease which is growing at an alarming rate worldwide . Although current pharmacological agents and insulin formulations have reached a high degree of specificity, untill now there is still no definitive cure for the disease. Replenishment of the deficient pancreatic B cells via islet transplantation has successfully offered a potential therapeutic option for the disease, but the scarcity of islets donor severely hinders its wide application.
