Abstract

The study was conducted in order to collect the information of the composition of pioneer species after the reforestation of artificially planted Dipterocarp species at Gunung Apeng Forest Reserve and also the composition ofspecies outside the reforestation area in secondary forests ofvarious age stands (F5, FlO ~dF30). The data collected were ofheight, diameter or DBH ofthe trees, number ofoccurrence and plant group and also the analysis ofthe data were conducted. DB05 and DB08 are dominated by Macaranga gigantea. In F5, herbs and grasses were mostly found such as Merremia spp. Ceolorachis spp. and Curculigo villosa. As in FlO, fern such Stenochlaena palustris and Blechnum orientale are commonly found in the area. In F30, herb and trees are most common such as Homalonena spp., and Ficus spp.. Macaranga gigantea is the most dominant pioneer species in all sites and it is recommended that this species is used in the reforestation activities to provide shade to the species planted.
