Abstract

Number of accidents in the construction industry are increasing over the past years despite many efforts are taken to curb with the issue. This research aims to explore the current practices in cultivating safety culture besides discovering the contributing factors in establishing a sustainable safety culture in construction industry in Malaysia. This research used qualitative method in obtaining data. Four informants working in different organizations as site supervisors in Klang Valley were selected to participate in this study. The esearcher used content analysis in analysing the data. The findings revealed that the practices in accordance to creating sustainable culture includes reporting unsafe behaviour, providing training for new recruits and workplace organization whereas the factors contributing to the cultivation of safety culture are communication, commitment of management and size of organization.
