Abstract

This study examines the effect of socio demography, savings motives, and also financial literacy on the financial planning behavior of 457 university students around Malaysia. For robustness check, the model is rerun by introducing savings attitude as the proxy of financial planning behavior. Yet, the conclusion is the same. The findings show that students will have better financial expenditure planning, if they have better motives in savings and well literate in finance. Interestingly, demography profiles did not have significant effects on financial planning. Governments and family will play important role by giving better motivation and financial education to students.
