Abstract

This study is generally intended to identify issues related to gangsterism among teenagers. Specifically this study examines the involvement of teenagers in gangsterism; its instigators; and activities carried out by these teenagers once they involved in gangsterism. The location ofthe study is in Kampung Haji Wahed, Miri, Sarawak. A total ofsix teenagers who involved in gangsterism and a resident of Kampung Haji Wah ed, Miri are chosen as the respondents ofthis study. This qualitative study utilizes purposive and snow balls sampling. The data is analyzed using analysis of narrative based on certain themes. The research instrument is in a form of interview guide questions. The findings indicate respondents involved in gangsterism since school age. Peers and family members encourage respondents to be involved in gangsterism. Among the activities which are often done by respondents once they involved in gangsterism are visiting night clubs, loitering, affray in groups, taking drugs and alcohol, and sexual intercourse.
