Abstract
Foreign aid is an instrument used by the major powers to extend their powers in international arena, to maintaining the status quo, promoting the ideology of democracy and achieving national interests. Foreign aid can be provided by bilateral and multilateral assistance. This act result dependency between the donor and the recipient countries. Both have different interests, but using the same approach. It is important to know the factors that led to the acceptance of foreign aid and the national interests to be achieved. The four countries chosen to illustrate the type of assistance received, Egypt and Ethiopia receives bilateral assistance from USAID, while Vietnam and Indonesia respectively to receive assistance from the World Bank and IMF. Foreign aid received to produce success and also failure by using the example ofthe country.
