Abstract

Begoniaceae is one of the largest flowering plant families represented by a massive genus Begonia with approximately 1600 species. This large genus then was divided into smaner group that so-called section according to their morphology and anatomical characteristics. Currently there are 63 sections are recognised worldwide with 18 sections found in South-East Asia and only 5 in Sarawak. The main objective of this study is to investigate the placement of Begonia species in Kuching Division based on morphological and anatomical of fruit characteristics. The methods in this study are by using the traditional method which is observed the morphological and anatomical characteristics and also using SEM for a seed. From this study, there were 16 species recovered which are 12 species in section Petermannia and 4 from section Reichenheimia. At the end of this study it is proposed 2 of the species segregate into section Dubious.
