Abstract

Diversity and vertical distribution of geometrid moths were investigated in lowland mixed dipterocarp forest at Kubah National Park, by settings four modified Pennsylvanian light traps for a total of twelve nights from August 2016 until February 2017 by practicing sling-shot technique. A total of 142 individuals comprising 64 species and six subfamilies were sampled. The Shannon- Weiner diversity index for geometrid moth was 3.46 at which species diversity was higher in ground level. Lowland dipterocarp forest was characterized by the dominance of Ennominae which concentrated at both ground level and canopy level. Vertical stratification of geometrid moths results shows species abundance in ground strata compared to canopy strata, dominated by subfamily Ennominae followed by Geometrinae, Sterrhinae, Desmobathrinae, Oenochrominae and Larentiinae. Pattern of stratification was not statistically significant along vertical gradient. Geometrid moth communities could be better explained by their behaviour and resources availability.
