Abstract

Japanese encephalitis (JE) is a mosquito-borne viral encephalitis related disease that is caused by infection with Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV). JEV is considered the most important cause of viral encephalitis worldwide. JEV is transmitted in a zoonotic cycle which occurred between pigs as the major reservoir whereby humans are incidental hosts. Although vaccine for JEV is commercially available, to date no cure and specific treatment for JEV is available yet. In this study, the main aim is to generate hybridoma clones by hybridoma technology specific to domain III of the E protein (EDIII) of JEV for pathogenicity study and diagnostic purposes. Three types of immunoassays which are Western Blot, Dot Enzyme Immunoassay and ELISA were employed in the. screening process for the selection of positive hybridoma clones. Based on this study, one positive hybridoma clones were detected which show positive reaction to the recombinant EDIII antigen in ELISA.
