Abstract

The family Columbidae are under the order Columbiformes. This family consist of about 310 species of birds which are constituted as pigeons and doves. In Sarawak, there are about 18 species from this family which can be found throughout the island of Borneo. Phylogenetic study among species of pigeons and doves (Ayes, Columbiformis) are not really extensive yet, especially the species which reside in Sarawak. This can be due to limited sampling of species and taxa in previous study. From there I sequence multiple nuclear using mitochondrial DNA cytochrome oxidase subunits 1 (COI) from 26 sequences from 9 species from the family Columbidae including one species from the family Podicipedidae as an out group. In my study I found that in that 8 species of Columbidae, there are 2 major Glade within the species obtained. Three phylogenetic trees were constructed as shown.
