Abstract

An assessment on the diversity of freshwater fish in upper and lower elevation of Mount Serapi, Kubah National Park was conducted on 17th to 19th December 2016 and 14th to 19th January 2017. The main objective of this study is to determine if there is any significance difference in the diversity of freshwater fish between these two different elevations. Sample was collected by using trapping (minnow trap and collapsible bubu) and scooping methods. A total of 19 species from 10 families of fish were identified, from both upper and lower elevations. Cyprinidae being the dominant family with 42.86% ofthe total species obtained throughout the study. The lower elevation area was found to be more diverse with a total of 17 species from 8 different families compare to the upper elevation with 7 species from 6 different families. By using Estimates and Past software, Shannon Diversity and the diversity t-test were calculated. The p-value was 1.0089 x 10-152, conclude that there is a significant difference in the species diversity of freshwater fish between upper and lower elevations of Mount Serapi, Kubah National Park.
