A total of 30 species belonging to 10 famillies were collected from middle part of Batang Kerang comprising Channidae (2%), Clariidae (2%), Cyprinidae (45%), Siluridae (28%), Tetraodontidae (10%), Eleotridae (6%), Bagridae (5%), both Helostomatidae and Osphronemidae (1%) and Anabantidae (0.5%) respectively have been collected during this study. Two species of fish from Channidae family; C. lucius and C striata and three species from Clariidae family, Cbatrachus and C. nieuhofii had been caught from Batang Kerang during sampling while C. teijsmanni was collected from the market survey. The Channidae and Clariidae families are highly tolerant and hardy species. Thus, they can exist in extreme environmental conditions such as low pH water and low dissolved oxygen.
