Abstract

Phytoplankton was identified and counted from the preserved samples collected from one single station at two different depths (2 meter and 4 meter) at Rambungan Estuary. The sample was collected monthly starting from November 2013 to March 2014. There were 25 genera identified in the water sample. There were seven common genera that occurred in each sampling month. The seven common genera are Triceranum, Coscinodiscus, Thalassionema, Navicula, Ditylum, Odontella and Biddulphia. Apart from that, there were few Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) species found in this study area. They were Dinophysis sp., Ceratium sp., Skeletonema sp. and Pseudo-nitzschia sp. However, these species were low number of individual L"' of water sample For physicochemical parameters, the salinity was ranged from 15 to 25.67%x, temperature (27.20- 30.17°C), dissolved oxygen (6.94-14.34mg/L), pH (7.4-8.3), turbidity (5.27-25.80 FNU/NTU) and transparency (0.52-1.19m). The total mean value for Chlorophyll-a was ranged from 0.0038 to 0.0096. Whereas, the total mean value for the four nutrients in mg/L; nitrate (ranged from 0.01 to 0.04), Ammonia-nitrogen (ranged from 0.01 to 0.03), silica (ranged from 0.85 to 1.24) and orthophosphate (ranged from 0.03 to 0.1) respectively.
