Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the marine wood borer communities at four different stations of mangrove area at Lower Intertidal Zone (Blungei Bay, Lundu), Higher Intertidal Zone (Blungei Bay, Lundu), Sungai Serayan (Sematan) and Sungai Stugor (Sematan). A total of 900 individuals from 13 families of marine wood borer were identified. The families of Teredinidae were records the highest number of individual with 359 individual, and follow by Gobidae (141), Portunidae (107), Emplectonematidae (103), Cerambycidae (73), Nephtyidae (51), Cirolanidae (20), unknown family (17), Sipunculidae (12), Pharidae (8), Muricidae (6), Pholadidae (1), and Limnoriidae (1). The Anova test shows that's there is no significance different between species distribution on both mangrove areas. The environmental variable and number of species shows a significantly negative correlation on both mangrove areas.
