Abstract

This study was conducted within river system of Wilmar Oil Palm Plantation, Suai, Miri, Sarawak area. This study is to investigate the ecology and habitat distribution of Cherax sp.. Red claw samples were collected using three-layer gillnets and crab traps at eight selected stations. A total (n) of 69 individuals samples were collected which the most individuals caught was at station five, 20 samples which cover 29% from the overall samples and there were no samples caught at station four and six. The cephalothorax length-weight relationship shows positive relationship with the Pearson correlation coefficient (r) value is 0.881. Growth pattern was negative allometric. Female samples compromise of 52% from the overall samples collected. Water quality results showed that pH values ranged from 5.87 to 6.83, temperature ranged from 27.5 to 30.7 °C, dissolved oxygen ranged from 4.98 to 8.82 mg/L, conductivity ranged from 119.95 to 151.63 µS/cm, turbidity ranged from 20 to 57.65 NTU, and depth ranged from 0.4 to 1.68 in.
