Abstract

Allozyme analysis is done among a population of bats, Cynoplerus brachyolis, in Kota Samarahan area. Tissues from chest, wings, legs and heart were taken from freshly killed fruit-bats and stored in liquid nitrogen immediately before transferring to a -gO°C freezer for long-term storage. The analysis was carried out using native Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (PAGE) technique. Allozymes that had been studied in this project were aspartate aminotransferase (AAT). acid phosphate (ACP). alcohol dehydrogenase (AOH). glucose-6-phosphate isomerase (GPI), glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GPDH), hemoglobin (HEM), isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH), lactate dehydrogenase (LDII), malate dehydrogenase (MDH) and superoxide dismutase (SOD). Staining results from allozyme analysis showed that almost all the tissue samples carried similar banding patterns. However, two allozymes had shown polymorphic band, the LOll and MOH. In consequence, the polymorphic bands of LOH and MOH have potential to be used as genetic markers for this species in future studies.
