Abstract

In this srudy, 3 experiments were conducted. 2 were on germination to see the effect of storage and scarification treatment and 1 on the early gro"wth of (he seedlings. Altogether 1300 seeds were used. For storage experiment, 2 treatments were done namely seed were sO\vn directly (So), and seeds stored for one month (SI). For scarification treatment, 4 methods were applied that are seeds were sown directly (T B), seeds soaked in boiled water (T1), in cooling boiled water (T2) and seeds soaked in concentrated sulphuric acid . H2S04 (Tl)' All the seeds were sown using Completely Randomized Design (CRD). For early seedling grmvth, 75 4-months old seedlings were provided. The seedlings were transplanted into 3 different types of growing medium namely topsoil (M,). sawdust (M,) and mixture of topsoil and sawdust I: I (by volume) (M]). Parameter taken for the grm'1h was height of seedling and number of expanded leaves. Seeds sown liom So and To showed highest germination rate? 20.33% and 3% and the lowest were from S I. 15.33% while T I , T1, and T3 with zero percentages. The highest grmvth increment was recorded from seedlings in sawdust, M2 01'2.04 em, and the lowest were from topsoil, MI of 1.39 em. Seedlings from MI showed the highest expanded leaves with mean of5.28 and the lowest·are M2 with ofO.6R.
