Abstract

Studies on the extract of Scleria sumatrensis from Cyperaceae family have been carried oul. Analytical TLC of crude cyclohexane showed six major component spots, five major spots for crude DCM and 6 major spots for crude EtOAc. Fractionation of crude cyclohexane and EtOAc was carried out using column chromat0r,raphy which afforded eight combined fractions and twelve combined fractions respectively. The II NMR analysis showed the possible presence of some terpene like compounds in crude cyclohexane. 'll NMR analysis also showed the possible presence of compounds with rotamers due to the very broad peaks observed in crude EtOAc and combined fractions F29-F35 and F36-F40 of crude EtOAc. Possible compounds with hydroxyl groups, carbonyl groups, aromatic rings and ethylenic carbons was detected in the 'II NMR experiment on crude cyclohexane, DCM, EtOAc and combined fractions of F29-F3 5 and 1"36-1"40 of crude EtOAc.
