Abstract
This study intended to investigate constructionism learning environment in helping children who have difficulty forming scientific processing skills (SPS). A constructionist vision of learning environment gives children the opportunity to build an artifact using a variety of media as representation of their ideas. This constructionist approach intends to change the way in learning as compared to the prevalent instructionist approach, where learners take control of their learning environment. The objective of this qualitative study was to explore constructionism elements of project, passion, peer and play (4P’s) for the learning of SPS for three poor performing students at a National School in Samarahan District. The qualitative research design was used to form an in-depth understanding of how the 4P’s shape and are shaped by constructionism. Data was collected for each of the constructionism element (4P’s) by independent observation, informal interview using semistructured questionnaire, Leuven Scale of Involvement for Young Children and analysis of the participants’ constructed artifacts. Thematic analysis based upon SPS and 4P’s framework was employed to analyse the data collected. Findings gathered from the study indicated that the construction activity using Scratch programming software provided a space for learning basic SPS. The 4P’s were discovered and found interweaving to facilitate the participants to learn SPS in and for the making of their animatio
