Abstract
Mapania cuspidata (Simpson) is a sedge species from family Cyperaceae which comprise of three varieties; M. cuspidata var. petiolata, M. cuspidata var. cuspidata and M. cuspidata var. angustifolia. They are difficult to identify based on morphology only, due to the insufficient of discontinuous characters that they possess. M. cuspidata var. petiolata which is currently recognized by having the longest pseudopetiole was tentatively identified using anthocyanidin in this study, following further investigation on the micromorphology of stomata and fruit surface of this species. Anthocyanidin test on M cuspidata var. petiolata gives pink-red compound which indicate the existence of delphinidin and cyanidin in this species. Anatomical study revealed that the size of stomata has no difference compared to other two varieties.
