Abstract
This dissertation studies and defines the concept of portraying personality through character design in the context of 20 Animation. The study examines the effectiveness of portraying personality through character design compared to portraying personality through narrative based on the characters portrayed in Disney's Gravity Falls. The topic was selected due to the growing popUlarity ofcartoons that portray personality through narrative in the mainstream media, thus effectively edging animations portraying personality through character design off the limelight. Consequently, the personalities in Disney's Gravity Falls were chosen as inspirations' to develop the characters in the animation project along with this thesis.
