Abstract

The reproductive biology of two species of anuran amphibians-Limnonectes iaticeps and Limnonectes kuhlii-were studied at Kubah National Park in order to examine possible relationships between reproductive parameters and aspects of life history. Larger females were found to produce larger clutches in Limnonectes iaticeps (r2 = 0.42; P < 0.05), but not in Limnonectes kuhlii (? = 0.26; P > 0.05); in Limnonectes iaticeps, larger females produce larger eggs (r2 = 0.35; P < 0.05), while in Limnonectes kuhlii, there was no relationship between female body size and egg size (? = 0.16; P > 0.05). In both species, females ingested food during the breeding season. There was no relationship between body size of the two sexes and stomach volume, suggesting that prey is harvested opportunistically, and larger animals may not necessarily eat more food.
