Abstract

This study discusses the industry of handicraft in Malaysia particularly in Kelantan state where the handicraft industry in this state has been playing a role in contributing to the economic development. This study also look into how the development of handicraft in Kelantan contributes to the income generation within this state. Despite the development of handicraft industry in Kelantan and its impact to the economic development in Malaysia could be withnessed via the income generated and also the profit gained from the total product sold, nevertheless, such contribution is also seen as having another form of intepretation. Other than that, this study attempts to explain the obligation of authorities in making efforts to develop the industry of handicraft in Kelantan. In the process of carrying out this study, both primary data and secondary data are collected. Primary data in this study are collectd using the method of observation, interview with the respondents as well as distribution of questionnaires to 100 respondnets made up of the local society members. While secondary data are extracted from the references on academical reading materials relatd to this study. On top of that, software of Statistic Package for Social Science (SPSS) Version 22 is used to analyse the data obtained through quantitative method which result from the distribution of questionnaires. Not forgetting, data obtained from qualitative research method which is the interview with respondents are also analysed accordingly to the classification of data based on distinct categories. Besides that, based on the method used to carry out this study, it is found that the handicraft industry in Kelantan has provided a vast job opportunity to uprise the per capita income in every household among the particular society and thus contribute to the economic development in our nation. Throughout the discussion and recommendations in this study, it is also expected that this study could inspire the future generations in expanding the handicraft industry towards more propherous prospect.
