Abstract
The Ministry of Education had recently introduced multimedia courseware as an instructional tool to facilitate the process of teaching and learning. Teachers' acceptance is an important factor in determining the effectiveness of the courseware in the language classroom. This research aimed to find out the teachers' expectations of the courseware as a tool in teaching English, the level of acceptance of the ESL teachers in using the CALL courseware provided by the Ministry of Education in teaching English, and any challenges they faced in using the courseware to teach in the language classroom. This research involved forty inservice ESL teachers from twenty urban and twenty suburban primary schools in Kuching. A structured questionnaire and semi-structured interview were used to collect the data for this research. Data collected was analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The findings revealed that the teachers had high expectations on the role and effectiveness of the courseware as a tool in teaching English, and the levels of acceptance of the ESL teachers on the use of the Ministry's courseware were high. The findings also revealed that majority of these teachers faced technical challenges when they were using the courseware to teach in the language classroom.
