Abstract
This study was designed to investigate the effectiveness of the Jigsaw learning on the Information, Communication and Technology Literacy achievement of Secondary One students as compared to the traditional teaching method. The research design used in this study was the quasi experimental design, where pretest and posttest were used. Forty-six secondary one students from SMK Kampung Nangka, Sibu, 15 male students and 31 female students participated in this study. The samples were divided into two groups, with 22 students in the treatment group, which was the Jigsaw group, and 24 students in the control group, which was the traditional group. Subjects had to answer the researcher developed ICTL assessment on chapter Spreadsheet Software and a set of questionnaire before and after the teaching to measure achievement, attitudes toward ICTL, and perceptions of the instructional approaches. Data analyses were conducted using the descriptive statistics to obtain the mean scores and standard deviation, as well as 3- Way ANOVA to test the research hypotheses. The results showed that students in the Jigsaw group had significantly higher ICTL achievement than the students in the traditional group. Also, the students in the Jigsaw group showed significant more positive attitudes toward ICTL and perceptions of instructions compared to the students in the traditional group. However, there was no significant difference in students' ICTL achievement, attitudes toward ICTL and perceptions of instructions between male and female students, as well as between students who own and who do not own a computer. The implementation of Jigsaw cooperative learning structures had positive impacts on ICTL achievement, attitudes toward ICTL and perceptions of instructional approaches of Secondary One students in SMK. Kampung Nangka, Sibu.
