Abstract

This study examines code-mixing among Malaysian Parliament members during of icial debates. The objectives are to identify usage, analyze forms, and document patterns based on Muysken’s (2000) and Ravika’s (2015) theories. A qualitative approach was employed, analyzing parliamentary transcripts from Hansard (October to December 2024). Findings indicate that all six code-switching forms described by Ravika and the three types introduced by Muysken occur throughout debates. This research contributes to sociolinguistics by highlighting code-switching as a discourse strategy in formal communication. Additionally, it has practical implications for language policymakers, of ering insights into actual language usage in Malaysia’s political institutions. Future research should explore broader transcript analyses and audiovisual recordings to capture non-verbal aspects of political communication
