Abstract
This study aims to examine the phenomenon of slang usage among the community on social media, particularly by focusing on the basic elements that drive its use. The main goal of the study is to study the types of slang that are frequently used on platforms such as TikTok and Twitter, as well as to explain the meaning of informal words and the context of their use in interactions on social media. This study uses a minimalist approach with a descriptive qualitative research design, through the method of content observation of texts and videos uploaded by users on TikTok and Twitter. Data were collected through purposive sampling from selected user accounts between January and June 2024, involving individuals aged 20-40 years including social media influencers. Data analysis was conducted using Chomsky's Minimalist Framework (2007) to analyze the lexical and structural aspects of slang. The findings of the study present an analysis of the types of slang found, such as creative spellings (e.g. "harey", "terai", "nau", "dak-dak", "kelaut", "maquan-maquan", "tacod", "herlok", "hampeh"), as well as explanations of their meanings and contexts of use in interactions on social media. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the social linguistics literature by providing a deeper understanding of the interactions between language, society, and technology in the digital era, as well as filling the research gap on the use of slang on social media through in-depth semantic analysis
