Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between leadership styles and organizational commitment in the organizations with Islamic orientation. The sample comprised 77 managers, executives and supervisors of Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (ABIM), Bank Islam, Bank Rakyat, Bank Muamalal, Tabung Haji, Tabung Baitulmal, Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM), Majlis Islam Sarawak and Jabatan Agana Islam Sarawak (JAIS). Questionnaires were used as a research instrument. Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ) developed by Porter, Steers, Mowday and Boulin (1974) was used to study organizational commitment as the dependent variable. On the other hand, Leadership Behavior Descriptive Questionnaires (LBDQ) developed by Stogdill (1975) was used based on research requirement to study leadership styles as the independent variable. Pilot test to examine the validity and reliability of the questionnaires was carried out at Kampong Baru Medical Centre (KBMC) showed Cronbach Alpha value of leadership styles (0.8895) and organizational commitment (0.8344). T-test and One-Way ANOVA test showed there were no significant differences of the organizational commitment level with the demographic. factors that consist of gender, age and educational level. However, based on Chi-square Analysis test, the results showed that leadership styles have a significant relationship with organizational commitment (X2= 8.688, p 0.013). Meanwhile, Multiple Linear Regression (Stepwise) test showed that autocratic leadership style has the most dominant influences on organizational commitment (R' = 0.116). Research proved that leadership styles had an influence on organizational commitment among managers, executives and supervisors. Entirely, research also showed that autocratic leadership style was the most practiced in the organizations with Islamic orientation.
