Abstract

This study aims to find out the perception of principals and teachers on the types of discipline problems in the classroom, the factors influencing students discipline problems in the classroom, the consequences of discipline problem in the classroom to the students and teachers and ways to overcome these discipline problem. This study will examine several aspects of discipline problem that generally occur in the secondary classrooms in Kota Samarahan district. The findings of this study conclude that almost all the respondents feels neutral about the classroom discipline problems because of the unseverity of the problems based on their experience tackling the problems. Majority of the respondents also strongly disagreed that the discipline problems in the classroom occurred due to the teacher's attitude, student's personality traits and peer influence but only some of the respondents felt that students' unhappy and indulgent home backgrounds were the factors that might contribute to classroom discipline problems. Almost all of the respondents agreed that counselling was the most effective method to overcome the problems and a well planned lesson rather than punishing the students.
