Abstract

In this project, a solar hybrid Peltier-Adsorption cooler is designed and fabricated. Solar hybrid Peltier-Adsorption cooler is a device that uses solar as the power source to produce cooling effect. It does not release pollutant and is environmentally friendly. For designing task, a 3D modelling software, CATIA had been used. Then, parts and components such as solar collector, condenser, reservoir, evaporator, ice box and copper tube had been purchased and fabricated accordingly. The adsorption cycle operates intermittently, i. e. one cycle is performed for a day. Therefore, cooling effect is only created during the adsorption phase at night. On the other hand, the Peltier cooler operates using electric current. With solar photovoltaic panel, cooling effect can be created in the ice box during day time. Now, with the combination of both adsorption cycle and Peltier cooler, the cooling effect can be achieved continuously day and night. From the experiment, a cooling temperature of 12.7 °C could be reached for typical load with 375m1 of water. COP of the hybrid system is around 3%
