Abstract

This study aims to identify the conceptual and procedural knowledge used by students when solving the angles of elevation and depression problems. Conceptual and procedural knowledge play very important role in teaching and learning Mathematics. Based upon their academic achievement in Mathematics subject, eight Form Four students from SMKA Tun Ahmad Zaidi were selected as the subjects for this study using the purposive sampling method. Data collection procedures were based on individually conducted problem-solving sessions. Throughout the problem-solving sessions, think-aloud method and interview were used. This process was recorded using tape recorder. The audio-recorded data were then being transcribed and later analysed according to conceptual and procedural knowledge. Data was coded and resulted in eighteen models of students' knowledge of Angles of Elevation and Depression.
