Abstract

This study was conducted in order to explore how the peer relationship, competitiveness and Internet used influencing the academic achievement of the Dean's list award in one of the IPTA in Sarawak. The informant selected from the list of Dean's list award from the past semester. A semi structured interview was conducted to gather information from the informant. The findings of the study which analyzed by using Content Analysis method shows that all the three factors were assisting in the process of learning indirectly increased the performance of the informant in academic. The good relationship with peers more assisting in the process of learning and the peers as a source of self motivator in order to have a good performance in academic. In addition, the usefulness of the Internet might more assisting in their course. Furthermore, the finding is in line with the findings of past researchers conducted in Malaysia and also in Western Countries. On the other hand, the implications of this study to the student shows that the students need to build a good relationship with their peers in order to assist in their process of learning. Besides that, the faculties, Student Development Centre and Students Affairs Unit also need to improve the existing infrastructure, college of residence, place of recreation and also providing student with the programs which will increase their motivation as well as the methodology of the study. In the future, it is recommended that the study will be conducted at the others location with adding the numbers of sample involved and also study on the others factors that can influence the academic performance of the students as well as by using the combination of qualitative and quantitative method in collecting the data of the study.
