Abstract
This research aims to study the cinematic representation of social conflict in Malaysia film. Social conflict theory has various perspectives, such as inequality of gender, race, and class. However, there is lack of study on social conflict in Malaysia film. The research objective is to identify these elements and examine how social conflict is represented in film. The research focuses on qualitative approach in its data collection. Apart from case study, content analysis that focuses on several Malaysian films, the interview with several prominent Malaysian filmmakers such as Bernard Chauly and Hassan Abd. Muthalib enriched the content and enhanced the quality of research. In the research finding, it is revealed that narrative structure, mise-en-scene, and character are the important aspects in film that portray the concept of social conflict. Thus, it is concludes that this research provides a new perspective to filmmakers by taking the approach of studying the narrative structure of Malaysia film from the aspect of social conflict theory.
