Abstract

This study aims to investigate the relationship between job satisfaction factors and job performance among the white-collar employees in Kim Hin Industry Berhad (KHIB), Kuching, Sarawak. Questionnaires were used to obtain feedback from a total of 58 respondents who were selected by using the simple random sampling method. The questionnaire comprised the information about respondents' demography, job satisfaction and job performance. The independent variables in this research were the job satisfaction factors which include work, pay, supervisor and co-workers. The dependent variable was job performance. The Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Multiple Linear Regression were used to test the hypothesis developed in this research. The findings showed that most of the respondents possess a moderate satisfaction level towards work (74.1 %), pay (75.9%), supervisor (63.8%) and co-workers (72.4%). Overall, the results indicated that the overall job satisfaction level of the majority respondents was moderate only. Moreover, a majority of the respondents (46.6%) were found to have a high job performance level. The results from Pearson's Correlation Coefficient indicated that satisfaction towards work (r = 0.489), supervisor (r = 0.362), co-workers (r = 0.411) and overall job satisfaction (r = 0.485) had a significant positive relationship with job performance. Furthermore, there was no significant relationship between the pay satisfaction factor with job performance. Multiple Linear Regression Analysis revealed that satisfaction towards work played a dominant role (34.9%) in influencing the job performance, whereas, other factors such as pay, supervisor and co-workers did not contribute significantly to job performance. In conclusion, the study was important to inform the management of the need to improve the job satisfaction and job performance of the employees. The findings of this study also provide support for the literature which can be helpful to future researchers
