Abstract

This thesis emphasize on the analysis and design of a bridge superstructure. The bridge was designed using classical method and computer analysis. The designed bridge is a 3 spans reinforced concrete boxed girder bridge with two 18.5 m side spans and a 23 m center span. Loadings and design are based on BS 5400. The superstructure is analyzed with grillage method using Staad III software. 10 longitudinal load cases with two different highway combinations from BS 5400 are analyzed to obtain the maximum bending moment, shear forces and support reactions. Boxed girder and deck slab are designed by hand calculation according to the computed Staad III results and JKR guidebook for bridge design. The reinforced concrete design is based on BS 8110. Results of the design are portrayed in AutoCAD drawings
