Abstract
The grid electricity supply in Sarawak is solely supplied by SESCO, Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation. But there are some areas in Sarawak which is classified as a rural area which could not be connected with the grid connection. The rural area such as Kampung Teluk Melano, needed to use diesel genset as an alternative to generate electricity. The study was conducted at Kampung Teluk Melano from 21 to 23 May 2002. The objective of this study was to collect and analyze the data from the population of Kampung Teluk Melano due to the usage of diesel genset. The study included the energy consumption study, energy production rate or cost, operating hours, and the noise emissions. From the study, the associated problems such as mini hydro failure, village genset failure, local expertise, and users' knowledge can be reduced or prevented by providing training and knowledge to the population of Kampung Teluk Melano. From the result, it is proved that more houses with one diesel genet are more efficient than single house with one diesel genset
