Abstract

Five years have passed since the COVID-19 pandemic ravaged the world. Malaysia was not spared. Drawing from the expertise of scholars and practitioners, this collection examines the impact of the health crisis on Malaysia’s society, economy and politics and fleshes out lessons from this period for policy-makers and the public at large. The essays highlight serious consequences from one of the worst crises Malaysia has endured, exposing and widening vulnerabilities. Yet they also point to the nation’s extraordinary resilience and a strengthening of community among Malaysians. From multiple disciplines and perspectives, with calls ranging from a pressing need to address the lost generation in education and wider inequalities to greater recognition of the challenges facing youths and necessity for ethical medical protocols, the authors ‘look back to look ahead’ and engage readers to reflect on the lessons of the pandemic for a stronger Malaysia.
