Abstract

The Exhibition of Creativity, Innovation, Technology, and Research in the Arts (eCITRA) is a biannual initiative by the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts (FACA), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). Since its inception in 2005, eCITRA has served as a platform that bridges artistic practice, academic research, and technological innovation, showcasing the evolving dynamics of contemporary art in Malaysia. The 2023 edition, themed Crossing Frontiers: Bold, Brave & Beyond, invites participants to explore the intersections of creativity, digital technology, and human experience. It challenges artists and researchers to transcend conventional boundaries and comfort zones, engaging with both the physical and virtual realms to uncover new artistic possibilities. Through multidisciplinary works ranging from traditional mediums to digital art, interactive media, and AI, eCITRA 2023 reflects a bold vision of art that is innovative, inclusive, and future-facing. This exhibition highlights the role of creative inquiry in addressing contemporary issues, while emphasizing the importance of aesthetic, cultural, and academic value in shaping the evolving narrative of Southeast Asian art.
